 Mothers of the bride need a pretty dress as well, but the dress should go with the ambiance of the wedding, the time of day, and the mother’s personality. With each of these considerations needed, the mother should make time to plan her own outfit for the big day.
Before to buy, mom should talk to her daughter about what to wear and what the wedding day will look like. After all, it is her daughter’s big day, and having her input is important to make her happy. The mother should ask her daughter what her preferences are regarding the mother’s attire.
Start looking for the mother of the bride dresses as soon as the bride has chosen her wedding dress, the color scheme and the bridesmaid dresses. If the mother of the bride orders her dress from a bridal shop, it usually takes four to six weeks for the dress to arrive. Mom might also have to get the dress altered and steamed, which takes at least one week.
The mother of the bride pick a dress that complements her daughter’s theme. For example, the mother of the bride might choose to wear a shorter dress if the bridesmaids are wearing knee-length dresses. If it is an evening wedding, a full-length gown is appropriate, as that is most likely what the bridal party will be wearing. If the wedding is outside, a more casual dress would be appropriate versus if the wedding is at a country club or restaurant.  A color that will look good with the bridal party’s colors should be chosen. However, white, ivory or cream-colored dress should be avoided as the bride should be the only one with that look.
